Transport Layer Security: the cryptographic protocol that secures most Internet traffic. A TLS handshake authenticates the server, negotiates cipher suites, and establishes an encrypted channel; TLS 1.3 (RFC 8446) requires forward secrecy for all cipher suites and removes legacy algorithms.
