RU: Paxos

A family of protocols for reaching consensus in a cluster of crash-prone nodes, introduced by Leslie Lamport. A proposer runs Phase 1 (Prepare/Promise) to obtain a ballot number accepted by a quorum, then Phase 2 (Accept/Accepted) to commit a value. Widely deployed but notoriously difficult to understand, which motivated the design of Raft.
