A multiprocessor memory design where each CPU socket has its own local memory, and accessing memory attached to another socket incurs higher latency over an interconnect (AMD Infinity Fabric, Intel UPI). NUMA-aware software pins threads and their memory allocations to the same node to avoid expensive cross-node traffic.
