Neighbor Discovery (RFC 4861): the IPv6 protocol that replaces ARP and ICMP Router Discovery. Nodes use five ICMPv6 message types — Router Solicitation, Router Advertisement, Neighbor Solicitation, Neighbor Advertisement, and Redirect — to resolve link-layer addresses, discover on-link routers, detect duplicate addresses, and check neighbor reachability.
