Differentiated Services Code Point: a 6-bit field in the IP header (RFC 2474) that marks a packet's QoS class. Intermediate routers read the DSCP value and apply the matching per-hop behavior — Expedited Forwarding (EF, value 46) for latency-sensitive traffic, Assured Forwarding for tiered throughput. Routers may reset the field at trust boundaries, so end-to-end DSCP requires cross-domain agreements.
