A sender-side TCP variable (cwnd) that caps the number of unacknowledged bytes allowed in flight at any time. The effective send limit is min(cwnd, rwnd), where rwnd is the receiver's advertised window. Congestion control algorithms grow and shrink cwnd in response to network signals.
