Broadband internet delivered over the coaxial (HFC) infrastructure originally built for cable TV, using the DOCSIS standard. Historically asymmetric — much higher download than upload — because the spectrum was partitioned that way; DOCSIS 4.0 is designed to enable symmetric multi-Gbps by using the full spectrum bidirectionally, though it remains in early deployment.
