The product of a link's bandwidth and the round-trip time (RTT), measured in bytes: BDP = bandwidth × RTT. It represents the maximum amount of data that can be in flight on the path at once. A sender whose window is smaller than the BDP cannot keep the pipe full — it runs out of send credit and sits idle waiting for ACKs.
